Jennet Thomas

Originating from inside the lively Underground Film scene of Exploding Cinema in London in the early 1990¹s, my work has increasingly had more
exposure in the International arena. Over the last few years it has featured regularly in the ŒBest of¹ programmes of both the New York and Chicago
Underground Film Festivals, wining several prizes in US competitions and screening at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, London Film Festival
and many others as far-flung as Taiwan, Norway, Greece, Israel and Australia.

The forms that my films and videos take comes from an eclectic and multiply discursive history; Underground Live film/performances- reading dislocated
narratives alongside film and slide projections, experiments with animation and film trick effects, and impulses stemming from my years as a painter - a curiosity about animating matter and images through time. Regardless of form, I strive for clarity and accessibility. With challenging human content often in the foreground, my work generally contains a good amount of dark humour. A consistent theme is the drive to play with narrative- an on going experiment with ways of imploding storytelling. Being part of The Exploding Cinema Collective - putting on lively and
unconventional screening events, entirely outside of any institutional or establishment constraints and aesthetics, was - and still is- tremendously
liberating. Basic bio Details Born Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK 1963- the Art Girl in a family of Physicists
