Concrete Feedback:
Intersections of Sound and Space

We think of buildings as generally keeping noise out, minimizing the amount of external stimuli that can get inside and cause disruption. The interior is protected as a sanctuary where one can feel at ease, away from the aural stirrings of the outside world, where quiet is a sought after state, an envelope for the ear. At the same time, buildings are susceptible to aural agitation, reverberating with unexpected noise, and in themselves producing harmonic possibilities through their spatial organization.

These intersections of sound and architecture reveal a complexity of physical phenomena which in themselves reverberate into psycho-acoustical and psycho-somatic flourishes, creating a network of sensation and thought that in turn influence how space gets defined and sound gets heard.

Through installation, workshops and performances Concrete Feedback will aim to explore these intersections of sound and architecture. The project will feature sound artists and architects whose work explores the relationship between sound and space, not as an object but rather as a 'performative' interaction.
