Civic Statues Unfrozen for One Hour: Clothed Women and Unarmed Men
Thursday, April 30th 2015, from 8 to 11 p.m. at The Container Yard in DTLA
This event celebrates the launch of archive.freewaves.org, a publicly accessible online environment encouraging the making, sharing, and dialogue of new video art, featuring over 400 video art pieces from around the world. This archive functions as an articulation of digital public space, as well as a tutorial on media art curation and a means of expanding the curatorial community for personal expression.
Freewaves presents Civic Statues Unfrozen for One Hour: Clothed Women and Unarmed Men, as part of this year’s LA Weekly’s Artopia, at the Container Yard in DTLA, on Thursday, April 30th, from 8pm-11pm.
The program is a 40 minute loop of two channels of 15 international artists’ recent short videos selected by Anne Bray, Director of Freewaves in Los Angeles, highlighting a featured selection of Freewaves Archive videos.
From quiet inquiries to over-the-top intensities, these works look at our communal activities from numerous angles, beholding the public conditions surrounding us: Living sculpture – Swapping semiotics – Historical roots – Dog catching – Working simultaneously on desktop and in Dubai – Subway reveries – Surveillance overkill – Slo mo martyrdom – Digital Graffiti – and Boarder Guardian. Public reconvenes with private.
Civic Statues Unfrozen for One Hour: Clothed Women and Unarmed Men, 2 channel video program curated for Moscow Film Festival, K-PST online, New Orleans Film Festival, Chela in Buenos Aires, 1830 and Artopia in Los Angeles.
