Mr. Tamale, a digital collective that uses image and sound samples,
is comprised of three core members, artists Alberto Miyares, Jay Juarez
and Antonio Mendoza, as well as revolving cast of other artists, musicians,
filmmakers and DJs. Mr. Tamale's performance will incorporate video
projectors, video players, digital cameras, and monitors to create a
visual environment for its sonic free jam.
Trabajos y dias (Social Factory No. 3) employs live video image manipulation
and electronic music performance to blur the distinction between art
and organizing. The activist-members of Ultra-red examine the social
spaces of day laborer organizing in Los Angeles within the larger context
of immigration, globalization and the struggle for human and labor rights.
"Trabajo y dias" gives special focus to the cultural and political work
of Los Jornaleros del Norte.
Performing corridos and rancheros, Los Jornaleros present music that
comes from the band-members' experiences as immigrants and day laborers.
For this special LA Freewaves performance, Ultra-red is Elizabeth Blaney
(artist, community organizer, Union de Vecinos), Pablo Garcia (musician,
community educator, Center to Increase Community Organization), Dont
Rhine (musician, activist, Pride At Work/AFL-CIO) and Leonardo Vilchis
(artist, community organizer, Union de Vecinos). Real-time video-image
processing by Shannon Noble.
