Acclaimed non-binary musician/multi-disciplinary artist/activist Dorian Wood (pronouns: they/them) was born in Los Angeles, California, USA, to Costa Rican parents. They seek to glorify both the sanctity and the irreverence of intimacy. Through their corpulent body and voice, Dorian challenges the separation of artist and spectator, using subject matter informed by their own perspective as a non-binary person of color and an autodidact without a formal college education or a strong alliance to any particular community. Dorian is in the process of releasing two new albums this Fall: ARDOR and REACTOR. In regards to the album REACTOR, Dorian shares: “It’s a completely new sound for me, and I feel that it continues to push the boundaries of what we consider to be folk music. Can electronic music be folk? Yes, oh my yes."

DIS…MISS is a public art series with videos, postcards, and performances, plus ways to participate online and in person. 60 outstanding L.A. artists are engaging in dialogues around evolving attitudes toward gender and intersectional feminism. The artworks present nuanced imagery and ideas on these complex topics as they simultaneously aim to confront stubborn inequalities and stereotypes. Audience engagements have taken the form of screenings, workshops, exhibitions, surveys, and discussions in Los Angeles County, Tehran, Manila, Graz, and on our website.

Nao Bustamante (@naobustamante) is an internationally known artist, residing in Los Angeles. Bustamante's precarious work encompasses performance art, video installation, visual art, filmmaking, and writing. The New York Times says, "She has a knack for using her body." She was an unlikely contestant on TV network, Bravo's "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist." Bustamante is alum of the San Francisco Art Institute, New Genres program and the Skowhegen School of Painting and Sculpture. Currently she holds the position of Professor and Director of the MFA, Art program at the USC Roski School of Art and Design.

He is a founding artist and or co-founder of: Viva! the nation’s first Latino Gay and Lesbian Arts Organization, The 18th Street Arts Center, Highways Performance Space, Clean Needles Now, Max 10 Performance Lab and Oficina de Proyectos Culturales, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Sebastian Hernandez, LA native and multi-disciplinary artist, makes art that ranges from performance art to drawings and paintings. Hernandez employs a feminist analysis, queer theory, browness, and notions of collectivity as modes of thinking and generating works that shift and complicate Mexican and Chicano narratives in the contemporary social imagination.

Raquel Gutiérrez is an essayist, arts critic/writer, and poet. Raquel is a 2017 recipient of the Creative Capital Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant.

Suzanne Lacy [Image 5-7: “De tu puño y letra,” Quito, Ecuador, 2014-2015]:
In Ecuador, an estimated 6 of every 10 women are victims of violence and only 10% of women escape violent partners. When Lacy arrived in Quito in 2014 she was introduced to the 2012 “Cartas de Mujeres” project, where 10,000 Ecuadorian women wrote letters on their experiences of violence. She saw the letters as an unanswered plea for action.
