Future IDs Project

The Future IDs project expresses the collective power of rescripting identity, artistic representation, and narrative during and after incarceration. For ten years a committed group of artists, allies, and most importantly, individuals with conviction histories have been working together to translate criminal justice advocacy into an artistic language capable of evolving public opinion and laying the foundation for true systems change. As a social impact campaign, the project is most known for Future IDs at Alcatraz (2018-19), a yearlong, socially engaged art project, exhibition, and series of community programs at the iconic prison-turned-national-park in San Francisco Bay. Led by Gregory Sale with core-project collaborators Dr. Luis Garcia, Lily Gonzalez, Kirn Kim, Cirese LaBerge, Phillip “Rock” Lester, Emiliano Lopez and Sabrina Reed, Future IDs is currently focused on the work of the Future IDs Art & Justice Leadership Cohort (2020-present) whose members are co-curating and individually participating in the Justice + Art Jam (2025).
