Great Leap creates bridges to a more just world, weaving performing arts, cultural practices, and community engagement to transform our relationships to the Earth and each other. Great Leap is currently producing the Manzanar Baseball Project, revitalizing the ballfield at the WWII Japanese American incarceration camp at Manzanar National Historic Site. An exhibition doubleheader this Fall will include an All-Star Game historical re-enactment, with top Japanese American ballplayers from California dressed in 1940s-style uniforms, using vintage equipment, and crew, volunteers & spectators also wearing 1940s costume. The Manzanar Baseball Project is a historically-based, culturally-rooted performance artwork that honors the spirit and determination of the Japanese American community to endure wartime injustice. It connects the dots between repressive government policies past and present, and reminds us that we still must be vigilant against forces that would corrode the rights and values in our Constitution.
