German Bobe
Bobe
belongs to an international generation of video artists. He has lived
and studied in Argentina, the United States, France, Italy, and Libya.
One of Bobe's biggest concerns is "how to be happy in Chile",
a concern he believes he shares with his compatriots.
This theme is expressed in experimental videos that evoke the social
and political conflicts of
contemporary Chile without narrative or commentary. In addition to
his video art, Bobe works in photography, painting, design, performance,
and film. His videoworks frequently refer to his other works and,
indeed, his entire artistic oeuvre is interconnected and occasionally
self-reflexive. He mingles classic images with the baroque and kitsch,
arriving at a glorious confusion of post-modern aesthetics and social
consciousness. His video collages mix live
action with photographs, paintings, drawings, and religious imagery.
