Her educational experience includes photography history at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, new technology art with MIT artists, and new genres at UCLA (MFA, 1985), creating the conceptual framework to posit media arts as public art. As a lecturer, she taught graduate seminars for 25 years in the new genre arts at Claremont Graduate University plus digital art and public art at USC.
Her recent awards include The Andy Warhol Foundation Curatorial Research Fellowship, Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Cultural Trailblazer award, UCLA Confucius Institute commission, NEA Our Town grant, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation’s Artistic Innovation and Collaboration Grant. LA Times Hyperallergic, Public Art Review, Artillery, Art 21, X-Tra, Afterimage and Artforum have written about her work as well as Lucy Lippard, Holly Willis, Sara Diamond, Catherine Wagley, Margaret Morse, Laura Marks, Karen Moss, Jackie Apple and Susan Kandel. She has given 150 lectures, juries and panels in Los Angeles and internationally.
Eleven biennial festivals presenting more than 3000 artists with the partnership of 125 curators and 100+ organizations have been held at Los Angeles MOCA, Getty Center, Hammer Museum, on Hollywood and Chinatown streets, and supported repeatedly by NEA, MacArthur, Rockefeller, Rauschenberg and Warhol Foundations.
She has produced public art projects with GLOW art festival in Santa Monica, Public Art Fund, NY Avant Garde Festival, LACE, Cinematexas, and multi-media installations at numerous venues.
As an artist she has produced public art projects and mixed media installations with Armory Center for the Arts, Foundation for Art Resources, Side Street Projects, Highways, NewTown, Civitella Ranieri, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, Public Art Fund, First Night Celebration, SkyArt Festival, N.Y.
