Private TV, Public Living Rooms

Private TV, Public Living Rooms kicked off at MOCA Geffen, with a weekend-long event, then dispersed to venues across the LA area in order to reach more communities. The festival consisted of twelve artist-designed “living room” installations that functioned as viewing spaces, each one thematically linked to the video program being shown in that room. Artists designing the installations included Liz Young, Barbara Carasco, Carole KIm, and Carter Potter. Themes for the rooms included “Girlhood, Disordered Women,”  “(de/re) Constructing Masculinities,” and “Media Pirates vs the Society of the Spectacle.” Artists featured in the exhibition included Elisabeth Subrin, Bill Viola, Cheryl Dunye, and Coco Fusco.
