Freewaves’ 2nd Festival

Screenings, cablecasts, installations
1991

For our second festival, the goal was to keep building our network of artists, curators, activists, and local audiences. We wanted to encourage more people to make work, and more people to see the work that was being made. To that end, this festival was more than twice as big as the first. A hundred arts organizations, cable stations, media centers and schools came together to screen 44 thematic programs of animation, documentary, video art, experimental narratives, and video art, as well as panels and installations and 150 videos from high school and college makers.

Below is the L.A. media access guide listing production facilities and other resources available to media artists that we made and distributed.

Freewaves is currently deepening and reorganizing our archive of 35 years of public art in Los Angeles. Check back in 2025 to explore more of our history.
