The full name of this program is “LA Freewaves presents free screenings of new, hot, kool, different, smart, contemporary videos by diverse California media artists especially for LA,” which is a long but accurate description of the screening series we did at Los Angeles libraries in 1995 and again in 1998. After a program of ten videos, the artists present would talk and take audience questions. Additionally, highlights from our most recent 4th festival were available on VHS for anyone to check out at all 66 libraries and 40 high schools in the LA system. Artists included Dawn Suggs, Claire Crespo, Emily Castillo, and Marisela Gomez.
Freewaves is currently deepening and reorganizing our archive of 35 years of public art in Los Angeles. Check back in 2025 to explore more of our history.
