Digi Days

In 1995, technology was changing everything. Artists had new tools to make art, and to distribute and show it to anyone, any time. Freewaves organized Digi Days, a weekend event that included sessions on CD-ROM authoring, internet basics, an artist’s showcase of CD-ROM pieces including George LeGrady’s The Clearing, and Janice Tanaka’s Psychasm. The creators were present to walk participants through the work and their process.

We also had a “Floppy Lobby,” where people could trade discs containing images, movies, HyperCard stacks, etc.

Freewaves is currently deepening and reorganizing our archive of 35 years of public art in Los Angeles. Check back in 2025 to explore more of our history.
