Freewaves: Latin America presented nine programs of the newest video art from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. The programs were commissioned for this project, which aimed to represent the syncretism and dynamic exchanges of artists and activists across Southern and Central America. From experimental exercises in physiognomy to pop culture clashes, from perceptual studies to historiographic reflections, these programs revealed the manifold fascinations and interests of Latin American media artists. The completely bilingual catalog featured notes from each curator and descriptions of each piece.
Participating artists included Monika Bravo, Priscilla Monge, Cecilia Navarro, and Felix Lazo. Participating curators included Arlindo Machado and Christine Mello, Jorge La Ferla, José Carlos Mariátegui, Ernesto Calvo Alvarez and Tamara Diaz Bringas, Claudia Prado, Cristian Silva, Michéle Faguet, Yucef Merhi, and José Roca, with Juan Devis as producer and Rita Gonzalez as editor.
